Former president Donald Trump is currently on trial in Manhattan.
Democratic prosecutor Alvin Bragg alleges Trump committed campaign finance violations by paying hush money to keep an affair out of the news during his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump is alleged to have paid $140,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to stay silent about their torrid affair.
That affair, The Wall Street Journal reports, started at a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe in 2006. The affair is alleged to have started shortly after Trump married his third wife, Melania.
“I actually don’t even remember why I did it but I do remember while we were [making love], I was like, ‘Please don’t try to pay me,’” Daniels told Touch magazine in 2011, a quote which only recently resurfaced online given the nature of Trump’s trial. “And then I remember thinking, ‘But I bet if he did, it would be a lot.’”
The Wall Street Journal reported Trump paid Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet. The Lake Tahoe celebrity tournament didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment to the story.
“Whether you’re a fan of his or not, which I never really was, you gotta admit he’s pretty fascinating,” Daniels told Touch. “We had really good banter. He told me once that I was someone to be reckoned with, beautiful and smart just like his daughter.”
