The Ohio State Buckeyes brought in Kansas State Wildcats transfer quarterback Will Howard this offseason and many expected him to be the team’s next starter. But Devin Brown opted to stay and compete for the job, and it sounds like he has one key advantage over Howard – experience.
As Ohio State head coach Ryan Day explained following the team’s spring game on Saturday, Devin Brown has a comfort level that exceeds any other player on the roster due to the years that he has spent in this offensive system.
“He’s now into year three and a lot of the things that we’re doing is still what we’ve done in the past,” Ryan Day said according to On3. “So, he probably feels the most comfortable out there with the offense, and you see that.”
But familiarity isn’t going to be enough for Brown to win the job. Day had a pretty clear message for Brown about what it’s going to take for him to earn the starting role – consistency.
“The big thing with him is just being as consistent as he possibly can. Keep the offense moving because he certainly has the ability and definitely flashes,” Day said.
We’ll have to see whether or not Brown can earn the job over Howard.
