This week, South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley offered a pretty bold stance on transgender athletes over the weekend when she made it clear that she would support a transgender woman playing in collegiate women’s basketball. But former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya was not happy about it.
“I’m under the opinion of if you are a woman, you should play,” Staley said this weekend. “If you consider yourself a woman and you want to play sports, you should be able to play. That’s my opinion. Do you want me to go deeper? Yes, so now the barnstorm of people are going to flood my timeline and be a distraction to me on one of the biggest days of our game. And I’m okay with that.”
But Michel Tafoya was not happy with this stance from Staley.
A follow-up question for @dawnstaley: Why are there currently two divisions — girls and boys, mens and women’s — in high school and college athletics? https://t.co/8ZYluv3lXi

Tafoya had another question for Staley.
Second follow-up for @dawnstaley: Which of your current players would you be willing to cut to make room for a taller, stronger, faster, biological male who identifies as a woman?

Staley is one of the most accomplished individuals in the history of women’s athletics, as both a coach and player.
