Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is heading into the final year of his rookie contract with the team, meaning he’ll need a contract extension if he’s going to be in Miami for the foreseeable future. And while Tagovailoa didn’t have much of an update on the negotiations specifically, it does sound like he’s optimistic about the future in Miami.
During a recent interview, Tua Tagovailoa seemed to indicate that the contract talks with the Miami Dolphins were pretty positive, saying that there were “exciting times ahead.”
“They’ve been good. Right now, I’m letting my agent handle that,” Tagovailoa said, according to KHON. “I’m focused on my family, I’m focused on continuing to better myself, better my craft and we’ll talk more about that when that time comes. For now, exciting times ahead, that’s for sure.”
Both Tagovailoa and the Dolphins have expressed confidence that the two sides will work out a long-term deal to keep him with the team, but neither side has been all that willing to share many details about the status of those negotiations.
We’ll have to see whether or not they can get the deal done before the 2024 NFL season begins.
