Earlier this week, news broke that the Kansas City Chiefs were bringing in veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to serve as the backup to superstar Patrick Mahomes. And now, the team has made that move officail.
On Thursday, the Chiefs officially announced that they had signed veteran quarterback Carson Wentz, making him available for his first press conference with the team.
“Bringing this vet QB to KC,” the Chiefs official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

During his introductory press conference, Wentz immediately made it clear why he chose to sign with the Chiefs over other teams.
“Lots of unknowns about the future, take it one day at a time first and foremost,” Wentz said regarding his aims for 2024, per the team transcript. “Big intrigue to wanting to come here and why I am here today is the winning culture. Seeing it from afar, seeing it from around the league for the last couple of years, just the culture that (head coach Andy) Reid has set, you see it. I’ve admired it for years, that was a big piece of the puzzle for me and the desire to be here on a winning team, in a good culture, in a good community, with a good fan base — just seemed like a good fit.”
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wentz has plenty of experience as a starter throughout his career and offers a veteran presence behind Mahomes.
