The Kansas City Chiefs leadership has made it pretty clear that the team will consider possibly moving out of the city after a vote to use public money for stadium renovations failed. And it sounds like there is already a city that would be willing to accept the team if they did decide to move: Dallas.
Obviously, the Dallas metro area already has the Dallas Cowboys, who play in nearby Arlington, but Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson seems to think the city can support another team. And he indicated that he thinks the Chiefs should move to Dallas shortly after the vote failed.
“Welcome home, Dallas Texans!” Johnson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Welcome home, Dallas Texans! 🤗 #CottonBowl https://t.co/VFvBqhBHbe

Johnson elaborated on this thought further in a statement to the Dallas Morning News.
“Dallas was named the top sports city in the United States because we play to win,” Johnson said in a statement Wednesday to The Dallas Morning News, referencing last year’s Sports Business Journal best sports cities ranking.
“As I have said previously, our market is big enough, growing enough, and loves football more than enough to support a second NFL team — especially a franchise (and an owner) with deep roots here.”
As Johnson alludes, the Chiefs previously played in Dallas as the Dallas Texans from 1960 to 1962 before relocating to Kansas City.
Obviously, the suggestion that the move back to Dallas led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Probably the only way would ever see another Super Bowl winning team https://t.co/myToFTbMNj

And just like that, he’s put more effort into bringing a Lombardi Trophy to North Texas than anyone named Jones. https://t.co/5PYyWfavvV

The mayor told me some months ago that a second NFL team was on his list of goals. Didn’t expect this might be one prospect, as #KansasCity voters refuse #Chiefs stadium improvements. https://t.co/JNrLvQJX0n

The footprint of Valley View Mall is bigger than the stadium in Arlington and close to three rail lines.
Just sayin’… https://t.co/nkpekoDEPe

I would be okay with the Dallas Chiefs, there's enough room in Prosper/Frisco for the stadium 🏟 https://t.co/v6KPL4ChaM

Well, LA has 2 NFL teams … why not? https://t.co/KCKqWeZkFe

We’re still a long way off from the Chiefs leaving Kansas City even if that’s what they decided to do, but it’s still interesting that Dallas would be interested in housing another team.
