Ever since Brock Purdy emerged as a legitimate star for the San Francisco 49ers, a lot has been made about his extremely modest salary as the former last pick in the NFL Draft, especially considering he lives in one of the most expensive cities in the entire United States. But it sounds like he’ll be getting a pretty massive pay raise in the near future.
While Brock Purdy is expected to play on his rookie contract for one more season, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York is already talking about Purdy’s new contract next offseason, calling it “a good problem to have” with an elite quarterback that will be one of the highest-paid players in the league.
“It’s what the market is. Brock is going to ask for something that no one has ever asked for before,” York said according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. “I don’t know how many players are making over $40 million [per year] as a quarterback right now.”
Purdy led the team to the Super Bowl in just his first full season as a starter and put up numbers that established him as a legitimate MVP candidate toward the end of the season. We’ll have to see how he ends up getting paid next offseason.
