Earlier this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles signed superstar running back Saquon Barkley as a free agent after he left the New York Giants. He’s a unique player, but it sounds like the team isn’t necessarily concerned about how he’ll fit into the offense.
During an interview this week, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made it clear that he thinks players like Saquon Barkley are so good that you don’t necessarily have to build your scheme around them because they’ll help your team however you decide to use them.
“Good players fit well into schemes. He’s obviously a really good player. We’re really excited to have him,” Sirianni said. “Guys like that, however you use them, they’re going to do a good job.”
Sirianni compared Barkley to Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown, who the team added ahead of the 2022 season and has immediately blossomed into one of the top receivers in the league since joining the Eagles.
“A couple of years ago when we added AJ, we did a lot of work on, ‘What does AJ do well, how can we use him?’ It’s been a similar process here with Saquon,” Sirianni said.
We’ll have to see how the Eagles plan to utilize Barkley.
