The Seattle Seahawks decided to move on from longtime head coach Pete Carroll this offseason, replacing him with former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. But even though Carroll will no longer be the coach, it sounds like Macdonald is going to do what he can to honor everything Carroll did for the organization.
During a recent interview with Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Mike Macdonald had a pretty clear message for Pete Carroll as he suggested that he will honor everything Carroll did to build a foundation for this team while still leading in a way that is unique to him.
“(Carroll’s) such an integral part of building this foundation, of who the Seahawks are, and that’s one of the reasons why it was so appealing for this opportunity. So it’s hard to separate those things,” Macdonald said. “However, like I said in my press conference, the only person that’s unique to me is me, so that’s the person I’m going to be. I have my way of seeing things and what I believe in, and a lot of that is aligned with what he believes in, from what I understand. However, this team needs to take on its own identity, just like any team, any year, and I’m the one to lead that charge. So it’ll be in our vision, and we’ll move forward.”
We’ll have to see what changes and what stays the same as Macdonald takes over as the Seahawks head coach.
