The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and star wide receiver Mike Evans just agreed to a contract extension last month, but it sounds like the team has already made a pretty significant change to that contract in order to free up some room on the salary cap.
According to a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have restructured the contract for Mike Evans in a way that nearly cuts his salary cap hit in half.
“#Buccaneers restructured Mike Evans’ contract on March 14 to free up $17.432 million in salary cap space. They converted his 2024 roster bonus of $21.79M into what is treated as a signing bonus lowering his salary cap figure to $17.766M from $35.198M,” Wilson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this is a pretty significant change for the Buccaneers as it will allow the team a lot more flexibility as they try to build a winning team around Evans and Baker Mayfield this season and beyond.
The extra $17.43 million in salary cap space will go a long way toward allowing them to bring in some free agents that will help the team reach their goals.
