Earlier this month, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to sign veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract after he was released from the Denver Broncos. But even though the contract spans just one season, it sounds like the team is planning to have Wilson as their starting quarterback for longer than that.
According to a report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to sign Russell Wilson to a longer contract at the end of the season and only signed him to a one-year contract because the Broncos are still paying him a hefty amount of money.
“Russell Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers for the vet minimum because the Broncos were paying him $39 million in 2024. But Wilson and the Steelers intend to do a longer deal at the end of the season, per sources,” Dulac said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
The Steelers have not had reliable play at the quarterback position since Ben Roethlisberger retired from the league in 2021. We’ll have to see whether or not Wilson can add stability to that position this year and beyond in the future.
