When the Cincinnati Bengals decided to use their franchise tag on star wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason, it seemed like that would lock him up for the 2024 season and take him off the market for any team looking to sign the superstar receiver. But it sounds like that might not be the case, after all.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tee Higgins is now requesting a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals after the two sides have failed to come to terms on a potential long-term deal to keep him in Cincinnati.
“Bengals franchise WR Tee Higgins has requested a trade, per sources. Higgins loves Cincinnati and hoped to be with the team long term, but is disappointed that the team has not had any talks about a long-term contract extension since March 2023. He’s ready to move on to a new home,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
This is obviously a pretty significant update around the NFL as Higgins is widely considered one of the top wide receivers in the entire league. If the Bengals do decide to trade him, he would have no shortage of suitors.
