Over the past couple of NFL seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles have become remarkably successful at their “tush push” quarterback sneak play where players push quarterback Jalen Hurts from behind on a quarterback sneak. The play has become nearly unstoppable, but it doesn’t sound like the NFL is going to get rid of it.
During a recent interview with Pro Football Talk on PFT Live, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent indicated that the league has no plans to eliminate the play this offseason.
“Don’t punish a team that strategically does it well,” Vincent told Pro Football Talk on PFT Live on Thursday.
Vincent told Pro Football Talk that the NFL Competition Committee didn’t even discuss the tush push when it met at this week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis because nobody has seen any reason to ban the play. Vincent said that the general sentiment around the league is simply that the Eagles have found a great solution to short-yardage plays.
“Their success rate, just amazing,” Vincent said.
So despite complaints from fans and media throughout the season, it sounds like the “tush push” will continue to be around for the foreseeable future.
