Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is in a state of limbo as he awaits the team’s decision on whether or not to keep him as their starter or trade him and select a rookie quarterback in the NFL Draft. Fields has expressed his frustration with the situation, and it sounds like the team understands.
During an appearance on the St. Brown Bros Podcast, Justin Fields made it very clear that more than anything, he just wants the whole process to be over and for the Bears to simply decide what they want to do.
“I feel like the biggest thing with all of this going on right now is I just want it to be over,” Fields said. “Just let me know if I’m going to be traded. Let me know if I’m staying.”
During his press conference on Tuesday, Bears general manager Ryan Poles addressed those comments from Fields, making it clear that the Bears “understand how uncomfortable” the current situation is for him because “no one wants to live in gray.” But he also made it clear that the team simply is not ready to make a decision yet.
“The hot topic,” Poles said according to Pro Football Talk. “The first pick. The quarterback situation. Contrary to reports out there, I have no master plan to present everyone today. This is an opportunity for us to continue to gather information, learn about the different players in the draft, listen to what opportunities could come up and then, at the end of the day, we’re gonna to make the best decision that we can for the Chicago Bears. It will not be based on fear of what could happen with this, what could happen with that. We’re gonna put our information together and make the best decision.”
We’ll have to see what happens, but it sounds like Fields will be in the uncomfortable situation for at least a little while longer.
