Dallas Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones passed up a chance to hire Bill Belichick as the team’s next head coach this offseason instead deciding to stick with Mike McCarthy for at least one more year. But he certainly didn’t rule out the possibility of hiring Belichick at some point in the future.
During a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Jerry Jones openly discussed the possibility of working with Bill Belichick in the future, sending a pretty clear message to the legendary coach that the two could work together.
“I know him personally and I like him,” Jones said. “There’s no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None.”
Jones had some high praise for everything that Belichick accomplished, suggesting that he very well could be the greatest coach of all time before reiterating that they could certainly work together.
“We all know that he’s certainly excellent, maybe at the top of his profession,” Jones said. “To say that any one person automatically assures you a Super Bowl is ridiculous. That’s too high [an] expectation for him. But is he maybe the greatest pro football coach of all time? Could very well be.
“He is a friend and I like him and I want to make real clear: I wouldn’t have any problem working with him.”
Obviously, the Cowboys are committed to McCarthy for next season. But beyond that, perhaps Jones does decide to turn to Belichick.
