Following a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Daniel Jones, the New York Giants had success with a couple of other quarterbacks throughout the season with rookie Tommy DeVito starting the majority of the games for the team before veteran Tyrod Taylor took over and found success late in the season. But it sounds like Jones is still expected to be the team’s starter next season.
When speaking to reporters at the Senior Bowl this week, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen made it clear that once he’s healthy, Daniel Jones is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Giants once again, though he didn’t rule out the idea that the team could take a quarterback at the No. 6 spot in the draft.
“Where we are, we’re in a good spot at six, we’re gonna look at every position we have needs across the board, offensively and defensively,’’ Schoen said according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “Daniel’s in the building every day working hard. The expectation is for him to be the starter when he’s healthy going into camp and we’re gonna be thorough with our process at every position during the draft, regardless whether it’s quarterback, running back, safety, corner, whatever it is. We’ll take a good player at six.’’
We’ll have to see what Jones’ future ultimately holds in New York in the long run, but it does sound like the team is moving forward with him as their starter next season.
