On Wednesday evening, Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was officially announced as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. And as he builds his staff, one NFL expert wonders if that new staff might include one of his former players: Colin Kaepernick.
As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick have a history together going back to their time with the San Francisco 49ers.
“Harbaugh drafted Kaepernick in 2011. Kaepernick became a star with Harbaugh as his coach. During the early days of Kaepernick’s collusion-fueled exile from the NFL, Harbaugh appeared on PFT Live and vowed that Kaepernick could deliver championships — plural — to an NFL team,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
But more than that, as Florio points out, Harbaugh has already considered hiring Kaepernick as a coach for his potential NFL staff once before.
“Two years ago, Harbaugh (as PFT reported) was considering the possibility of bringing Kaepernick to Minnesota as the quarterbacks coach, if Harbaugh had been hired. It’s unknown whether Kaepernick, now 36, would have been (or now would be) willing to do that,” Florio wrote.
It would certainly be a major move for Harbaugh to bring Kaepernick aboard his coaching staff. We’ll have to see if he ultimately decides to do it.
