Dak Prescott Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

After yet another disappointing performance from starting quarterback Dak Prescott in the playoffs, many Dallas Cowboys fans are ready for the team to part ways with the longtime quarterback. But due to Prescott’s current contract situation with the team, that’s not going to happen.

As league insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk explained this weekend, the Dallas Cowboys are essentially forced to work out a new deal with Dak Prescott ahead of next season as a result of the absolutely massive hit to the salary cap if they don’t.

“On the first day of the 2024 league year, Prescott’s cap number will skyrocket from $26.832 million in 2023 to $59.455 million. The Cowboys have no real choice but to extend his contract before then, in order to chop down the massive cap charge,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk this weekend.

Obviously, this news didn’t make Cowboys fans happy as they took to social media to express their outrage at the news.

It’s pretty clear that Prescott will remain with the team next season, despite the wishes of the Cowboys fans.

We’ll have to see whether or not he can lead the team on the deep playoff run that has alluded him so far.
