Over the past several months, the debate regarding whether or not transgender women should be permitted to compete against other women in women’s sports has become one of the biggest hot-button issues in the entire country. And as that debate rages on, transgender golfer Hailey Davidson notched an important victory at a women’s golf tournament recently.

According to Fox News, Hailey Davidson won the Women’s Classic as part of the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour based in Florida on Wednesday. As Fox reports, Davidson was three strokes outside of the lead with just four holes remaining in the contest, but she completed the comeback victory over Lauren Miller after two playoff holes to claim the tournament title.

Davidson finished the final round one-over 73 while Miller shot a 76, giving Davidson a two-stroke lead and the victory in the tournament.

This was Davidson’s first victory of the season and is a big step toward making history as she attempts to become the first transgender woman to earn an LPGA Tour card.

The NXXT Women’s Pro Tour is giving away 10 exemptions to the Epson Tour, the LPGA’s developmental tour, to its top five point leaders of this current season. Davidson is currently in first place and is one pace to earn one of those spots, giving her a chance at making the Epson Tour and potentially eventually the LPGA.
