Jim Harbaugh just led the Michigan Wolverines to their first undisputed national championship since 1948, but he and the program are still in the middle of multiple NCAA investigations related to recruiting violations and the recent sign-stealing scandal. And as Harbaugh negotiates a potential new contract with Michigan, it sounds like he is keeping that in mind.
According to a report from Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports, Jim Harbaugh is seeking a clause in his new contract that would grant him immunity from getting fired as a result of an NCAA investigation.
“Even as Jim Harbaugh meets with NFL teams about coaching opportunities, specifically the Los Angeles Chargers early this week, he remains engaged in discussions with Michigan about a contract extension that includes unusual termination clauses should he choose to stay in Ann Arbor, according to industry sources,” Wetzel wrote for Yahoo Sports.
“Specifically, sources said Harbaugh is seeking language that would grant him immunity from termination from any finding or sanction that could arise from multiple current NCAA investigations into the football program.”
It’s certainly a sticky situation for Harbaugh as they continue to negotiate the contract. We’ll have to see whether they come to terms or Harbaugh decides to bolt for the NFL.
