Typically, when college football teammates fight at practice, it’s seen as a negative thing and a sign of dysfunction within the locker room. But that’s not the way Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders sees it.
During a recent press conference, Deion Sanders claimed that he sees fights during practice as “a great thing,” before claiming that he doesn’t break up the fights and keeps track of who won.
“We’ve had a great week of practice. We had a couple of fights, which I like,” Sanders said. “It’s a great thing. I always want to know who won because I keep records. I don’t break them up. Some coaches break them up. I don’t.
“Some guys fight hoping for the break up. No, we’re going to let you go,” Sanders said. “I love it. They’ve been getting after it. It’s almost like a rededication. It’s almost like a refocus. I love where we are. We’ve had great practices this week, offense, defense, as well as special teams.”
It’s certainly a controversial approach for Sanders to take as he leads his team of college students, but it’s become very clear in recent months that Sanders has no problem with being controversial.
