Former American president Donald Trump is an avid golfer. He played the sport before, during, and after his presidency.
He’s also facing a $250 million civil fraud lawsuit in New York. State Attorney General Letitia James alleges the Trump Organization, under the direction of Trump and his adult sons, inflated and deflated financial assets to defraud insurance companies and obtain favorable loans while it built its real estate empire.
The case is ongoing in New York, with an expected ruling early next month.
Last week, however, Trump turned heads on Wednesday by claiming he would skip the trial on Thursday to catch a “very big professional golf tournament” at his property in Doral, according to The Palm Beach Post.
But while Trump’s private jet landed at Palm Beach International Airport on Thursday, Trump never completed the small journey to Doral for the pro-am tournament.
“Either Trump apparently did not want to answer more questions about causing an insurrection, mishandling secret documents, interfering in an election or sending hush money to [an adult film star],” wrote Tom D’Angelo of The Post.
Another reason D’Angelo speculated that Trump might miss the tournament is to avoid discussing the apparent split LIV Golf is making from his properties next season.
Trump has yet to comment on the preliminary LIV Golf schedule showing no tournaments will be held on his properties; the current arrangement has been very profitable for the former president.
