It’s no real secret that Jimbo Fisher hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since he became the head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies. And as a result of his struggles, it sounds like Fisher could soon be fired from his position – even despite his absolutely massive buyout.
According to a report from college football insider Bruce Feldman, Texas A&M would be willing to fire Jimbo Fisher if he doesn’t manage to turn things around for the Aggies, even though the school still owes him about $76 million.
“Texas A&M, I’m told, will find the money to get rid of him if he can’t get this thing going — and yes, it absolutely does matter to important folks down there that Texas has a chance to be a College Football Playoff team this year … and Steve Sarkisian has been on the job for half as long as Jimbo,” Feldman wrote for The Athletic this week.
The Aggies are currently 4-3 this season following a disappointing loss to the Tennessee Volunteers. This comes after the team finished with just a 5-7 record last season marking Texas A&M’s first losing season since 2008.
We’ll have to see whether Fisher can turn things around in College Station or if his days leading the program are coming to an end.
