Former college football coach Urban Meyer retired twice during his three-time national championship career.
His lone NFL job with the Jacksonville Jaguars ended with him being fired before he completed one season at the helm.
So it’s understandable why many football observers think Meyer will eventually return to the coaching ranks, most likely in college.
However, according to Meyer, who currently works as a college football analyst for Fox’s widely popular Big Noon Kickoff show, he has “no desire” to coach again.
“I am good,” Meyer told Mike Wilson of The Knoxville News Sentinel. “I never really took a day off. People, when I say that, they scratch their head. I am like I never took a day off. I had some health stuff go on. I became addicted to sleeping pills. I was just a maniac worker. … So no. No desire.”
Meyer was recently rumored to be a target by Michigan State to replace Mel Tucker, whom they fired for cause after revelations of a sexual harassment allegation.
Meyer last coached collegiately with the Ohio State Buckeyes, the program he led to the 2014 national championship in the first year of the College Football Playoff.
The NFL world was quick to react to the news, with many doubting the sincerity of Meyer’s statement about having “no desire” to return to coaching:
