The New York Islanders came away with a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, thanks largely to the efforts of Tom Kuhnhackl. The winger scored two goals on the night (after entering the game with one goal on the season and just 12 in his 174-game career), and one of the goals was particularly special.
With the Islanders trailing 1-0 in the first period, Kuhnhackl fell on his backside and tried a desperate backhander from an extremely difficult angle, and somehow turned it into a goal.
This is without a doubt a shot that Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom needs to stop, but let’s just marvel at the absurd goal:

That’s an Alex Ovechkin-esque score from Kuhnhackl.
