Cordell Broadus, son of legendary rapper Snoop Dogg, shocked the world two years ago when he left his commitment to football and UCLA. Now we know why.
Snoop spoke with talk show host Wendy Williams, where he revealed his son Cordell, a four-star wide receiver recruit who signed with UCLA back in 2015, left the game. According to Snoop, his son left due to concerns about CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy).
“My son is very smart for getting out early and maintaining his mind-state,” he told Wendy Williams about 21-year-old Cordell Broadus. “It was difficult for him [to break it to me] because he said he had played for me his whole life and he wanted to play for himself.”
Broadus wasn’t just a big name; he was a legit prospect with a potential NFL future. But, he ultimately decided a future in football wasn’t worth the potentially severe and long-term brain injuries that possibly result from CTE. Kudos to Snoop for being understanding of his son’s decision to walk away from the game. The rapper is a massive football fan and does coaching in his spare time, so I can’t imagine the news was easy to take, at first. But, once he realized his son’s concerns, backing him and his decision must have been easy.
