Eric Weddle’s career in San Diego didn’t end as many expected it to. The Chargers’ three-time Pro Bowl safety played in 137 games over nine seasons with the organization that drafted him as a second-round pick in 2007 after an illustrious career at Utah. As one of the best defensive backs in the game over the last decade, he finished with 850 tackles, 19 interceptions and 71 passes defended.
Although his career in San Diego is worth celebrating, it came to an ugly end after the organization fined him for missing halftime during their Week 15 game against the Dolphins. He stayed on the field to watch his daughter partake in a dance performance, leading to an absurd $10,000 penalty that was widely ridiculed.
Two weeks after the fine, one that he apparently had no interest in disputing or even seeking clarification on, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Weddle will not continue any relationship with the Chargers:

Barring a shocking change of heart, it appears Weddle will become a free agent or opt for retirement.
