American Pharoah Jockey Victor Espinoza is doing a great thing and it looks like all of his winnings from the Belmont Stakes will be headed towards cancer research. The jockey announced on Saturday following the amazing Triple Crown clinching performance that the winnings would be going to “City of Hope.”
According to the City of Hope’s official website:
City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with research and treatment protocols that advance care throughout the nation.
According to the Courier-Journal:
Likewise, jockey Victor Espinoza won’t keep any of his Belmont winnings, saying after Saturday’s race they’ll go to a California cancer treatment center.
At the wire I was like, ‘I cannot believe I did it,'” Espinoza said. “I (won) the Triple Crown race now, but I didn’t make any money, because I donated my money to the City of Hope.”
