It may not be the 37 points that he put up in one quarter against the Sacramento Kings but that doesn’t make what Klay Thompson did against the Grizzlies on Monday night any less impressive.
As a part of a 42 point effort in a 111-107 win over Memphis, Klay broke out his cheat codes and scored 26 points in the second quarter alone. He scored 37 points in the first half and hit his first eight shots from the floor. His stats from the second quarter were ridiculous.
Thompson made 10 of 13 shots in the second quarter, including 6 of 7 from 3-point range. He was in such a groove that his teammates turned down open shots, frantically looking to get him the ball, while the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 chanted, “Klay! Klay! Klay!”
In a nearly nine-minute span, Thompson scored 23 straight points for the Warriors. He ended the half with 37 points, though the sloppy play by his teammates left the Warriors with a sour taste.
The Warriors are a video game and I love it.
