On Wednesday, Sotheby’s put an incredible 1967 Mets bullpen cart up for auction.
The cart’s starting bid was $10,000 and it was expected that it would sell for anywhere between $20,000 and $30,000. Considering that the cart is still in drivable condition and that the “outside of each seat has been widened to allow for the addition of speakers to either side,” perhaps Sotheby’s should have foreseen that there would be a huge demand for the Mets’ bullpen cart.
How huge?
The final bid lapped the highest estimate multiple times.
Adding on the 25% buyer’s premium, and the sale becomes even more eyebrow-raising.
