MMA is on another level in Russia, apparently. This past weekend ProFC 57 took place, but it ended in a flurry of punches, and not necessarily from the fighters.
The bout which sparked the mini riot was the middleweight title fight between reigning champion Shamil Abdulkhalikov and the contender Mikhail Kolobegov.
According to the website Bloody Elbow, the incident stemmed from a controversial judges decision in the third round.
The fight was scheduled for three rounds, so once the fight concluded, Shamil and his corner waited what they expected to be a clear decision victory.
However, for the second time that evening, a judicial error forced a fourth round in the fight, where Mikhail threw a Hail-Mary flying knee late in the fight and knocked Shamil out cold.
Once Shamil was out cold, Kolobegov began his victory lap which was cut short by two folks from Shamil’s corner who attacked Kolobegov. The melee ensued and eventually cooler heads would prevail.
