On Monday, Jeremy Guthrie shook the sneaker collecting world when he “formally” announced his retirement as an active sneakerhead.
The Kansas City Royals pitcher has always been well known for his large sneaker collection but it now appears that Guthrie will be taking a break from the heartbreaking game that is sneaker collecting. Speaking at a podium surrounded by Air Jordans and even a pair of Nike Mags, Guthrie uploaded the press conference announcing his decision to his YouTube channel.
He also offered these sincere words to go along with the video:
After nearly 3 decades of collecting it is time to walk away from my passion, sneaker collecting. I will hold on to all my sneakers and continue to wear them with pride, but as far as continuing to buy and discuss sneakers, that part of my life is officially over. Thanks to my many friends and colleagues in the industry who have helped me throughout my career, we will always share this bond. Thank you to my followers and fans for your support as well.
Not so coincidentally, Guthrie’s speech is eerily reminiscent of another very famous press conference.
