Without a doubt, Stephen Curry is Under Armour’s most famous basketball athlete so when it was announced last year that Curry would be getting his own signature shoe, there had to have been a lot of pressure to make sure that Curry’s first shoe would be a statement piece.
The Curry One is certainly an eye-catching shoe.
There will be two initial colorways offered. The first is done in the traditional Warriors blue and yellow team colors.
The second features a camo print:
The silhouette is pretty damn nice but what is likely to make or break whether one likes the model is the shoe’s pockmarked upper. The design choice certainly makes the shoe unique (and hopefully offers good ventilation) but the pattern certainly doesn’t look sleek.
The sneaker does feature some very cool personal touches. The shoe’s tongue has SC30 sewn on it, an ode to Stephen Curry’s name and number. The inside of the tongue reads “I can do all things” which is a reference to Scripture, specifically Philippians 4:13. The “4:13” can be found on the shoe’s bottom lace loop. This was done as a nod to Steph’s habit of writing on his sneakers before games.
Lace tips are inscribed with “LEAD” and “MMTB” which stands for “Make My Team Better” which reflected Steph’s work ethic and basketball philosophy. These are small details but they undoubtedly add to the shoe’s story and makes them undeniably Steph’s.
No word on a price point or a release date but expect those to follow shortly.
