Well, this has got to hurt. This week, Australian television journalist Mike Amor was reporting from a Los Angeles skate park (he is Channel 7’s US correspondent) on a segment about Tony Hawk’s first ride on a hoverboard.
Unfortunately for Amor, the decision to use an active skate park as an establishing shot would be a costly one. As Amor was going through his bit, a skateboarder in the background would lose his board and the skateboard would whack poor unsuspecting Amor upside the back of his head. Luckily, he wasn’t seriously hurt (hopefully, the skateboarder was OK as well).
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Amor has led a pretty distinguished career.
In a career spanning 25 years, Amor’s credits include winning the Edward R Murrow National Award for his report on the rescue of a toddler after the Haiti earthquake, a Logie for his report on the Garuda plane crash in Indonesia in 2008 and two Quill Awards.
He was on the ground in New York during the September 11 attacks, in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and has been a war correspondent during the Libyan rebellion, the Gaza war and two Fijian coups.
And now, I feel bad that all I did know about him was the fact that he got hit with a skateboard.
