Remember the infamous Steve Bartman incident during Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS? The Cubs appeared to be on their way to the World Series. They held a 3-2 series lead in the NLCS against the Florida Marlins. It was the seventh inning and the Cubs were enjoying a 3-0 lead.
Then Steve Bartman reached for a foul ball which may have been in the field of play.

Following that? The Marlins’ improbably racked up eight runs and won the game.
The Cubs loss was undoubtedly unforeseen by the Cubs staff. At some point during the game, Cubs hats with a World Series patch (pictured above) were placed in Cubs players’ lockers in anticipation of Chicago winning the NLCS that night. For some reason, the hats were not removed and Cubs players were greeted with them when they returned to their locker room following their crushing defeat at the hands of the Marlins, an ill-timed reminder of what could have been.
And just when you thought the whole Bartman incident couldn’t get any more depressing for Cubs fans, there’s hats like this floating out there which will only add salt to those wounds.
