The PGA Championship held its annual Long Drive Competition yesterday at Valhalla in Louisville. Some guys take the competition a little more seriously than others – the top-three finishers receive $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 in charity donations, respectively – but it tends to be pretty entertaining for fans regardless.
Padraig Harrington did his best to entertain the crowd by putting on his best Happy Gilmore impression, including a few steps towards the tee in his swinging motion. He didn’t quite produce a screamer like Happy’s known to but the crowd highly enjoyed the effort and Harrington couldn’t help but smile.
Louis Oosthuizen took first prize with a 340-yard drive, Jason Day finished second at 338 yards, and Johan Kok rounded out the Top 3 at 337 yards. If style points were awarded, Harrington definitely would have taken home the top prize.
