Everything surrounding Derek Jeter’s final season has been fantastic (well, aside from perhaps his play or the state of the Yankees’ season). Other teams are honoring Jeter as like he’s a foreign dignitary, Yankees fans are worshiping him as if he were an unerring god and he’s pretty much the talk of the town where ever he goes.
It’s no wonder that there’s a ton of interest in Derek Jeter memorabilia right now. But how bad is the thirst for some sweet Captain keepsakes? So high that one company, Steiner Sports, is selling the very dirt that Jeter has patrolled on the infield.
The team’s official collectibles company, Steiner Sports, is selling plaques — complete with a capsule of infield dirt from Yankee Stadium — from a number of the legendary shortstop’s career milestones. The plaques retail for $19.99 or $29.99 and include moments like “The Flip,” “The Dive,” Jeter’s first home run in the Bronx, 3,000th hit and the farewell speech from the old Yankee Stadium.
According to For the Win!, if you want your own vial of Jeter dirt, simply register at the Steiner Sports website next week and you can have some dirt that has graced the cleats of Derek Jeter for free.
Steiner Sports is also offering plaques of every ball park in the league which will also mark how many hits Jeter had in that particular park up until his 3,000th career hit. Those plaques will also come with a vial of dirt from that ballpark. Those plaques will cost you a cool $349.
What’s next, the air that Derek Jeter breathed in every stadium? His used tissue? Who knew that Derek Jeter was also baseball’s King Midas?
