John Vescio was pumping gas last week in White Plains (NY) when a car slammed into the station, causing the pump he was using to collapse and start a fire. Vescio, a New York State trooper, immediately fled the scene, only to return when he realized the driver of the wrecked vehicle was still in the car, unconscious. Vescio pulled the 70-year-old man to safety, just moments before both of their vehicles became engulfed in flames.
Investigators believe the driver went into diabetic shock and had pulled into the gas station. Six people were treated for injuries, none life threatening.
