Blue Mountain State, the Spike TV comedy series about a fictional college football program, was cancelled in 2011 after a three season run on the network, but it appears that the cast and creators aren’t ready to let it die.
Alan Ritchson, who played the role of linebacker Thad Castle, one of the series’ most popular characters, stars in a staged interview with Jimmy Kimmel in the video above to announce a Kickstarter campaign aimed at funding a BMS movie.
As you might notice, Ritchson’s interview (in character) with Kimmel isn’t exactly real – it’s cleverly edited using a green screen and clips from Kimmel’s slightly awkward interview with Kanye West last fall – but it does the job for the project.
Blue Mountain State had a pretty solid following during it’s television run, so it will be interesting to see how well the Kickstarter campaign does. As you might remember, a similar Kickstarter project was started to fund a Veronica Mars film and wound up raising more than $5.7 million, more than double their original goal. That film is slated to be released this year.
With that in mind, it’s certainly possible that a BMS movie could be on the horizon. The Kickstarter campaign begins next Tuesday, April 15th.
Update: The campaign has officially begun and – as I’m writing this – nearly $300,000 of the $1.5 million goal has been raised. Check out the Kickstarter page here, as well as some additional promotional material below.
