Around 3 a.m. this morning, the insomniacs of hip-hop Twitterland were granted quite the welcomed surprise.
Chance The Rapper sent out a tweet to his followers emphasizing that he was now equipped with an in-home studio at his new residence in Los Angeles. Along with the news of his new musical furnishings, Chance also dropped a Soundcloud link to the track, “Home Studio (Up In This Bitch)”, which was recorded with his band, The Social Experiment, on the recently acquired studio fixtures.
An hour before he made the track available, he teased his followers with the following tweet:
I gotta home studio. who gon stop me. tweet #homestudio and i promise a new song. im back up in dis bitch
— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) March 25, 2014
The song, which is raw and unfiltered, is a collection of the band’s funky and soulful instrumentation as a backdrop to Chance’s wavering and playful lyricism. The final product is what seemingly feels like a two-minute invitation into one of the artist’s casual in-home practice sessions.
Moving into his new Los Angeles home in January, where he lives with electronic recording artist James Blake, Chance has been vocal about his excitement behind the idea of being able to create new music within his own surroundings. We are hoping this unexpected surprise and willingness to share such authentic music, is an indication of what we can look forward to in the near future from the esteemed Chicago emcee.
