Numerous NHL teams have been known to have a special item or token around the locker room that is awarded to one outstanding player after wins – the Boston Bruins passed around an Army Ranger jacket in last year’s playoffs, the Blackhawks have a championship belt and, arguably my favorite, the Blues have the weenie hat.

Now the Winnipeg Jets are getting in on the fun…with an aviator’s helmet.

The idea came from Jets defenseman Mark Stuart, and the helmet was acquired by chairman Mark Chipman.

Last Friday, Devin Setoguchi (above) became the inaugural winner of the helmet after his performance against the Canucks. He wore it proudly during the post-game scrum in front of his locker.

Stuart became the second winner on Sunday after the Jets’ 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens:

And last night’s 2-1 victory over the Hurricanes landed Andrew Ladd with the honor:

So far, the team is 3-0 since the helmet arrived in their locker room. Coincidence? You decide.
