When the New York Giants signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a long-term contract extension last offseason, it seemed like a sign that the team was committed to him as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. But in a brutal turn of events for Jones, it sounds like the team is considering drafting another quarterback in the first round to potentially replace him.

According to a report from NFL insider John Frascella, the New York Giants have been considering using the No. 6 overall pick on either Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy.

“While it’s come out that the Giants are upset someone leaked the JJ McCarthy story, my source tells me they were even more interested in Jayden Daniels. However, it has become clear to the Giants that Daniels is DEFINITELY going in the top 3 of the NFL Draft, thus their attention turned completely to McCarthy.” Frascella said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This report has since been confirmed by NFL insider Benjamin Allbright.

This obviously is not great news for Jones’ future in the league as teams don’t typically select quarterbacks in the first round of the draft if they plan to keep their starter around for years to come.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out.
