Streetball is the best.
Karl-Anthony Towns is a force to be reckoned with. Considering he was unanimously voted Rookie of the Year for the 2015-2016 season, no one can really deny that. Scoring 18.3 points per game while averaging 10.5 rebounds, the big man’s looking good in his early career, and shows no signs of slowing down. It’s no wonder he was the number one pick overall in the 2015 draft, when other prospects like Jahlil Okafor and Kristaps Porzingis were predicted to go before him.
Although Towns is clearly comfortable on the big stage that is NBA courts, he still attributes his love of the game to his days playing on the streets, where playgrounds were sacred lands for he and his friends to show off their skills. Gatorade recently gave Towns and other ballers a chance to express that love in their newest commercial, bringing players from different leagues and backgrounds to the hot courts of Venice Beach.
Dealing with the heat, air flow, and other factors that don’t affect games in gyms or arenas, Towns gets to show his skills even more, as he dunks, deals with “wind,” and even shoots from the bleachers (a childhood favorite of everyone’s one friend who could it). He appears to be having a great time, hooping with the likes of Mix Tape Tour veteran Robin “Syk Wit It” Kennedy and Joyce “Sweet J” Ekworomadu, whose nicknames are clearly better than yours.
