On March 10, 2014, Rich Peverley came off the ice after his shift for the Dallas Stars was over, and seconds later, he collapsed. What happened next might have been one of the most harrowing scenes in modern sports with players from the Stars frantically trying to stop the game so Peverley could get medical attention.
Peverley was taken from the bench, to the locker room, where he would have to be revived with a defibrillator. While all this was happening, the players on the ice, the fans in the arena, the media, and everyone following on Twitter had no idea what was happening.
The Dallas Stars just released this video, chronicling what happened in great detail. It includes interviews from the players like Tyler Seguin, who jumped on the ice to stop play, Jamie Benn, whom Peverley collapsed on, and head coach Lindy Ruff, who was in the dressing room watching Peverley being worked on by doctors.
It’s a 24-minute video, but one that is surely worth your time.
