The poaching of a well-known Zimbabwe lion took an unexpected turn on Tuesday morning, as the identity of the suspected hunter was revealed. Zimbabwean officials said that Walter J. Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, is responsible for luring the lion, Cecil, from his sanctuary and illegally killing him.
Palmer is not new to big game hunting, but the suburban Twin Cities man is claiming his hunting permits are valid and the lion was shot legally with a bow and arrow. Upon the release of his name, there was immediate uproar across the world, with many seeking out Palmer, who only issued the brief statement that refuted the claims. His dentist office in Bloomington, a Minneapolis suburb, and house in nearby Eden Prairie, have been bombarded with media and protestors. Among the protestors were this couple, who said they were hunting dentists. They also put a stuffed lion on his mailbox:
