The Chicago Cubs were playing against the San Diego Padres on Sunday when Jon Lester found himself in a bit of a jam in the second inning.
With one out and a runner on first, Lester fielded a grounder that he simply could not get out of his glove. Rather than give up a rather embarrassing base hit, Lester tossed his whole glove to first base to secure the out.
I’m not sure if it’s “the smartest play in baseball” but one has to give props to Lester for some quick thinking and to Anthony Rizzo for following through on the play.
