Chris Borland shocked the NFL world with his decision to retire at 24 years old. The linebacker played one season with the San Francisco 49ers after being drafted in the third round from Wisconsin in 2014. He joins the recent wave of early football retirements, a group that includes former teammate Patrick Willis, Jake Locker and Jason Worilds. It is far from a sweeping phenomenon but it is certainly an interesting development.
Because the decision was extremely unexpected, anyone and everyone reacted, some of which were more reasonable than others and some of which were quite harsh. Those on the harsh side took to Twitter to use some NSFW terms to describe the now-retired Borland.
