With all of the negative stories and outrage regarding law enforcement in the news lately, it’s pretty refreshing to finally hear some good news on the community policing side of things.
This great video comes from the Lowell, Michigan police department, which decided to surprise some citizens this holiday season by giving them gifts on their wishlist during routine traffic stops. After finding out what items the citizens (or their children) were in search of, the police officer relayed the information to some accomplices, who quickly purchased the item(s) and delivered them to the traffic stop.
Though some items were small and others were a bit larger, what’s important is the fact that the department took the time and effort to show their people that they care. The importance of building and maintaining relationships within the community should never be understated when it comes to law enforcement, and I’m sure something like this will wind up going a long way for the city.
