After Trevor Rosenthal blew a save in the top of the ninth during NLCS Game 2 in St. Louis on Sunday night, infielder Kolten Wong played the role of unlikely hero for the Cardinals in the next half-inning. Wong’s clutch walkoff homer to right helped tie the series at one game apiece, and the celebration that ensued at home plate reflected how immense the moment was.
After rounding the bases, Wong was met at home by the rest of his teammates, who certainly greeted him in aggressive fashion. During the raucous celebration, Rosenthal, third baseman Matt Carpenter and infielder Daniel Descalso managed to not only rip Wong’s jersey off his body, but rip it completely in half as well:
That’s something I can’t recall ever seeing before, but it’s a pretty solid testament to how intense October baseball can be. That thing will probably wind up in possession of Cooperstown at some point soon.
