The Ashley Furniture store in College Station either underestimated the power of Kevin Sumlin (and Kenny Hill) or they were simply trying to both drum up business and excitement for Aggie football with a promotion this month.

The store ran the deal from August 16-27th in which customers would receive full refunds for any purchase if Texas A&M upset South Carolina by more than 10 points. As the entire college football world is aware of, A&M hammered the Gamecocks in Columbia by a score of 52-28, easily eclipsing the 10 point mark.

Time to pay up, Ashley Furniture.

Mark Wilks, owner of the store, told ESPN that 600 customers purchased items during those 12 days, totaling over $1 million. One ambitious customer even purchased $20,000 worth of furniture.

We’ve wanted to do this for three or four years now. This was really good for us.

Anticipating a potential upset from the local squad, Wilks purchased insurance on the promotion and because A&M entered the game a double-digit underdog, he will only pay about 15% of the $1 million.

Money well spent.
